Like a madman

It's strange, since I awoke
I don't quite feel the same
I can't look at myself
The mirror betrays me
There must be things other than coffee
To help me see
I want to darken water
To clear my mind
The machine is plugged in my back
And burns in my skin

If you awoke,
That would make two, you and the sun
Watching me eat breakfast
I feel like a stranger
I don't know whether to laugh or cry
It's as if I was losing all control
What's on my shoulders?
What makes me act so differently?

I just jumped ten feet high
I'm going to find myself back on earth
Like a madman, everything is so clear

Tell me what to do
I fell on the ground
In the midst of people who took no notice

If I could start anew
With a little luck
I could maybe fall back on both feet

No, my friend, no
That's not how to go about it
You gotta stay in your assigned place

No, my friend
Don't try to get anywhere
You're gonna annoy your neighbors

Then tell me what to do
I fell on earth
In a field
That's been laid with steel

If I could start anew
With a little luck
I may fall
Somewhere on the other side

No, my friend
That's not the way to learn
Just look at
Where everybody else is

No, my friend
Don't try and talk
We'll have to think of locking you up

It's strange, since I awoke
Everything rings loudly in my ears
Familiar sounds
Even the noise on the stairs
And even if the clock chimes
To better stand out
To be deaf for an hour
I want to hear my heart
Slumber was my only silence
I'm not as lonely when I remind myself

If I had to awake
Like Alice in Wonderland
Staring at my cereal
Like an old crystal ball
I can't tell if it's white or blue
At the bottom of a diamond
The smaller I am, the bigger it looks
I will fold myself into it

I just moved across it
I'm going to find myself a madman on earth
Like a madman, everything is so clear
